Competitor Waiver - December 20, 2025 Battle Pankration

I have voluntarily submitted my application for registration as a competitor in Battle Grappling. By submitting the application for competition, I certify that I am fully aware of and understand the inherent dangers in participating in martial arts competition activities.


I understand and agree that the operators of the club/center, Bellingham Mixed Martial Arts DBA BATTLE GRAPPLING, its owners, the instructors, or any other student, will not be responsible for my safety, nor will any of these parties or individuals serve as a guardian of my safety.


I will hold harmless the above-mentioned parties from any claim by me, my family, my estate, my heirs, my personal representatives, or their assigns, arising out of my participation in the event.


I further state that I am of lawful age and legally competent to sign this agreement, and that my signing this agreement is my own free act (unless signed by a parent or legal guardian). I also understand and agree to the terms herein are contractual, and they are not a mere recital or simply for information purposes.


I have read, understand, and have fully informed myself of the contents of this agreement. I assume my own responsibility for my physical condition and capability to perform under the program which I may participate in. There is no time limit on the validity of this release nor is there any geographic limitation on where these materials may be distributed.

Weigh-Ins:

All weigh-ins will be conducted by video, though we will have an optional in-person


Regular matches gets a 1 lb allowance. That means if your match is listed at 170 lbs, you may weigh as much as 171.0 or less to make weight. There is no 1 lb allowance for a team weigh in.


COMPETITORS IN TITLE SUPER FIGHTS OR TOURNAMENTS DO NOT GET A 1 LB ALLOWANCE. That means if you are eligble to win the 155 lb title, you must weight 155.0 or less to make weight.

Weigh-In Instructions:

  1. Show the athlete’s whole body stepping on the scale and then move in to show the weight on the scale.

  2. Pull back showing the athlete’s whole body standing on the scale, at which time they will give the pre-approved hand signal.

Weigh In Day, Friday the 19th:

6:00 pm - Weigh-in videos accepted 6 pm onward.

Fight Day, Saturday the 20th:

Rules:

Adult Beginner (White Belt) Matches:

Match Length: 6 minutes

Legal Submissions: All upper body submissions are legal, with only the straight achilles lock to the legs. No spinal locks, neck cranks, or slamming. No Kani Basami (scissors) takedowns or jumping guard. It is expected that if a competitor lifts their opponent off of their feet during a takedown they will attempt to turn them shoulder/back down to the mat. No spiking or throwing a competitor on their head.


Adult Intermediate (Blue Belt) Matches Gi/No Gi:

Match Length: 8 minutes

Legal Submissions: All upper body submissions are legal. Knee bars, toe holds, and hip stretches (electric chair/banana split) are legal. No spinal locks, heel hooks, neck cranks, or slamming. No Kani Basami (scissors) takedowns or jumping guard. It is expected that if a competitor lifts their opponent off of their feet during a takedown they will attempt to turn them shoulder/back down to the mat. No spiking or throwing a competitor on their head.

Adult Advanced (Purple/Brown/Black) No Gi:

Match Length: 10 minutes

Legal Submissions: All submissions are legal. No slamming. It is expected that if a competitor lifts their opponent off of their feet during a takedown they will attempt to turn them shoulder/back down to the mat. No spiking or throwing a competitor on their head. Kani Basami (scissors) takedowns and jumping guard are legal.

Penalties:

If there is no submission during regulation time the competitor with the fewest penalties is the winner. If both competitors have the same number of penalties the winner will be determined by judges decision.

  • Stalling – playing for a draw – not advancing position.

  • Intentionally forcing the opponent off the mat.

  • Intentional escape from the mat to evade bad positioning.

  • Biting, grabbing hair, body hair, nose, or ears.

  • Attacking or pushing the groin or eyes.

  • Grabbing three or less fingers at one time.

  • Any competitor receiving 3 penalties in one match will lose the match by disqualification.

  • If the referee determines that an illegal act causes serious damage to the opponent, the competitor who committed the foul may be eliminated.


Pankration

Rounds and Equipment

All matches will consist of three, three-minute rounds with one minute of rest between rounds. Shin guards and pankration gloves will be provided for all competitors. Competitors are required to supply shorts, rash guard or sports bra, mouth guards and groin protectors (for men).

Legal Strikes:

All punches and kicks are allowed to the head, body, and legs while both competitors are standing. No striking of a downed opponent (three points of contact including a knee). No strikes are allowed on the ground, just grappling.

Legal Submissions:

Submissions rules follow those by experience level in the Combat Grappling rules listed above: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced.

Clinch:

Clinching is allowed for an unlimited duration, provided there is action (strikes, takedown attempts, etc).

Illegal Techniques/Fouls:

No oblique kicks to the side of the knee are allowed. Back fist techniques must land with the gloves. No elbows are allowed. No striking of a downed opponent (three points of contact including a knee). No blows to the groin, back of the opponent’s head, or spine are allowed. No spiking or slamming your opponent.


Combat Grappling

Submissions ruleset will follow the experience level for the match (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced). Open handed strikes are allowed to the head, body, and legs once a competitor is in a down position (three points of contact including a knee). Competitors may win by submission, knock out, or referee stoppage.

If there is no submission or other stoppage during regulation time the competitor with the fewest penalties is the winner. If both competitors have the same number of penalties the winner will be determined by judges decision.

Adult Beginner (White Belt) Matches:

Match Length: 6 minutes

All matches will consist of three, three-minute rounds with one minute of rest between rounds. Shin guards and 12 oz boxing gloves will be provided for all competitors. Competitors are required to supply shorts, rash guard or sports bra, mouth guards and groin protectors (for men).

Legal Strikes:

All punches and kicks are allowed to the head, body, and legs. Knees are legal to the body (below the collar bone) and legs. No elbows are allowed. No striking of a downed opponent (three points of contact including a knee).

Clinch:

Clinching is allowed for an unlimited duration, provided there is action (strikes, sweep/trip attempts, etc).

Illegal Techniques/Fouls:

No oblique kicks to the side of the knee are allowed. Back fist techniques must land with the gloves. No elbows are allowed. No striking of a downed opponent (three points of contact including a knee). No blows to the groin, back of the opponent’s head, or spine are allowed. No spiking or slamming your opponent.



Kickboxing:

Rounds and Equipment:

All matches will consist of three two-minute rounds with one minute of rest between rounds. Shin guards and boxing gloves will be provided for all competitors. Competitors are required to supply shorts, rash guard or sports bra, mouth guards and groin protectors (for men).
